'Maps', pencil case by Kathryn Clarke
Kathryn is fascinated by the embroidery stitches on the Hilda Sexton village wall hangings at Rodmarton Manor, bringing to mind different map symbols such as marshes and woodland. This lead her to use a map of the Rodmarton area as her print inspiration. She has deconstructed the contours, roads, and footpaths, and played with scale and layering colour. Kathryn then screen printed different combinations on to linen and cotton and produced a collection of small bags and gloves.
